Dear Mr. President
1)
Who created this message?
Dear Mr.
President was written by Pink (an American pop singer) and Billy Mann (a producer). It was recorded at 2005. This
song is from “I’m not dead” album.
2)
What creative techniques are
used to attract my attention?
To begin, the song's title
called my attention immediately. I think it suggest that this is a polite open
letter to the President George Bush.
The second aspect that
attracts me was the pictures. They display us the real situation of the United
States also they exhibit us the problems that haven't been solved. Some
pictures show: the effects of Hurricane Katrina, evacuation efforts, lost
children, homeless people, and homes destroyed by bombs also coffins of
American soldiers.
3)
How might different people
understand this message differently?
- I believe that this is a
controversial song. It‘s clearly a wakeup call to the President to tell him
that there are so many people out there, working hard and not getting anything
in return. She was asking him to do something about it.
- If you are from the United States and you
don't support President Bush's decisions, I think you might be agreeing with
the lyric. Because President Bush was proud of himself running the country
while people were starving to death, some of them were living in the poverty.
Also Bush said that he would provide equal opportunities for all children,
which was a lie, instead he makes it harder for certain communities and races.
There were hundreds of
soldiers dead in War that could not say goodbye to their families. He was
against gay people furthermore; he was against abortion (taking away women’s
rights to make their own choices about their own bodies).
- If you are from the
United States and you support
President Bush’s decisions. You might be completely disagreeing with the lyric
of the song.
-Poor and homeless people
from the United States might think the president don't care about them.
- People from others
countries might wonder: "How can a President ignore this kind of things
that are very important?"
4)
What values, lifestyles and
points of view are represented in, or omitted from, this message?
Some values present in
this song are respect to people that were living those difficult situations,
honesty because Pink wrote about what she wanted to ask and empathy because
what she wanted to get with this song was to raise awareness that there are people,
who is not happy and need help from all of us, not just the president's help.
About lifestyles. There is one thing President Bush has never had to cope with: poverty. He comes from a rich family. It's difficult for me to imagine that he has much sympathy for poor people.
Some points of view present in the song are Writer's point of view and people in the picture protesting against the president's statements.
5)
Why is this message being sent?
In my opinion Pink tried to expose
who everything in the U.S. was ignored by the President, but it shouldn’t be. Also
she wanted to ask some very important questions. I believe the really wanted
answers.
