Real authority

Did Queen Elizabeth really have the power or was she manipulated by her counsellors?

During our discussion in groups we talked about what was the real influenced that Elizabeth had over the decision making while governing England. Would it be different if there was a man as a monarch?

Personally I think that she didn't have much to say when deciding. She was a very smart and strong woman, and and that's really well shown in the movie. But her counsellors´ opinions were over hers during difficult times.
Another important thing is, what was driving Elizabeth's decision making. for example Anne´s death. she didn't want to get involve, because that would mean that monarchs weren't as untouchable as they seemed.

  1. I think that she did not wanted to be manipulated by the counsellors, but she reached a point were she could not get out of the situations without their help.

As you say in your post she WAS a strong women, really clever, one of the brilliant minds in England and she is remembered like that. But behind her shadows are people like the Cecil´s who were only interested in their success.
