TRUE TO MYSELF  - Ziggy Marley

1) Who created this message?

This song was created by Ziggy Marley, one of the sons of Bob Marley.

2) What creative techniques are used to attract my attention?

I love the rhythm of this song, it is a mix between happiness and peace. It's not the typical reagge, this song has some sounds of rock. In my opinion it's a really perfect blend of music. Also talk about the stereotypes of people, so to Ziggy the most important thing is to be ok with ourselves, we don't have to lie to feel good. We are just the way  we are.

3) How might different people understand this message differently?

The message of the song is actually very simple, we have to be true with ourselves. This is the message that people might understand, a way to be sincere with us and the rest of  the people.

4) What values, lifestyles and points of view are represented in, or omitted from, this message?

The values that you can see in the lyrics of this song are basically the sincerity and the honesty. We cannot live in a world of lies, thus the author of the song wants to contribute to a better world.

5)Why this message being sent?

This message was sent to the humanity because we should realise that the truth is not something bad, we just have to know how to say it . With the truth we can find the freedom.

  1. The message, like most reggae songs, is quite simple (never simplistic though). If you look at the video, part of the backdrop takes place in a gas station and a motel (classic landscapes of Americana) contrasting the core theme: what does that say to you? Did you notice that most of the troublesome situations shown are played by white people? I'd like to read from you on these points, Camila.

  2. I have watched the video 3 times, and It was really hard to me found a relation between the video and the song, because I didn't do it from that view before, but I think that the gas station represent the "obligation" of everybody ( America), because in that country you have to put gas by yourself , so everybody is the same in that point, nobody serves you.
Also I have to say that I didn't notice about the troublesome of the "white- black people" , I think that this video shows the reality since other point of view, maybe more realistic because the normal stereotype is that black people cause all the problems because of the bands, or the violence that they represent according "rap" videos or just stereotypes in television. This video shows the reality and how sometimes we hide our reality just for show us "happy" for the rest of people
